In June 2025, our Year 1 students took to the stage for their first-ever speech presentations as part of Waseda Shibuya’s inquiry-based learning programme. Held over two days—Monday 9th and Wednesday 11th—the event showcased our students’ growing confidence in public speaking and research skills.
Each EC class was assigned a country at random, sparking lively discussions and curiosity. Guided by their own questions, students dove into independent research to explore a topic of interest related to their country. They then crafted and memorized a two-minute speech, supported by bullet-point cue cards and original slides that visually reinforced their key points.
From the vibrant culture of Mexico to the unique traditions of Thailand and the rich history of Peru, the presentations reflected thoughtful engagement and creativity. The students’ enthusiasm and poise were evident, making the Term 1 speech contest a memorable highlight of the academic year.
This event not only honed students’ communication and critical thinking skills but also nurtured a deeper appreciation of global perspectives—core to our mission of cultivating lifelong learners.
